Nolan Rhodes, MSJ senior and Varsity Football co-captain, in speaking to Rutland Herald reporter Chuck Clarino after MSJ’s win over Burlington on Friday, September 5 said this: “We work just as hard as anybody else and we deserve this because we’re as close a team as you can get.”

COLCHESTER - Defense wins football games; just ask the Mount St. Joseph Mounties.
The Mounties made two huge defensive plays in the fourth period and also prevented the Colchester Lakers from scoring three times inside MSJ’s 10-yard line in the second half to pull out a 13-12 nonleague victory here Friday.
Louis Altobell tackled Lakers QB Jack LeClerc just shy of the goal line on a two-point conversion try with 2:38 remaining in the fourth period to preserve MSJ’s narrow lead.

Bagley¹s two-act script is in rehearsal now, involving over 25 students, faculty and staff from both MSJ and Christ the King.

New Hockey Coach Brings Pro Experience to Program
Brett Stickney has been named as the new boys hockey coach at Mount St. Joseph Academy. Stickney attended MSJ for two years before going to prep school. He played on two Junior Olympics teams before attending Boston College on a hockey scholarship. Stickney was drafted in 1990 by the Chicago Blackhawks and played for the Flint Generals of the Colonial Hockey League and the Indianapolis Ice of the International Hockey League. Brett’s recent coaching experience includes successful Pee Wee and Bantam teams for the Rutland Area Hockey Association.
Learning continues outside the classroom for MSJ Athletes
If playing time and personal attention is your idea of a great high school sports experience, then you’re right on target with MSJ fall sports. While the teams may be smaller than most area schools, both the players and coaches are long on heart and experience. Participation is more than hype at MSJ—last year only 8 students out of the entire student body did NOT play a sport. Thirty-six students participated in at least one sport and almost 80 student athletes played more than one sport. Now that’s athletic/academic balance.
