ABOUT MSJ
The legacy of Mount St. Joseph Academy reaches back to 1882 when the Sisters of St. Joseph started a school for girls. Then, as now, we endeavor to teach the whole person—mind, spirit, and body. And, for more than 125 years, our students have excelled in academics, music, drama, leadership, and athletics. These same students have gone on to excellence in colleges and have contributed in significant ways to their communities, both in Vermont and diverse places around the world. Christian values are embedded in the Academy’s curriculum and students are invited to grow in spiritual strength with opportunities for both daily prayer and the celebration of the Mass.
We believe Mount St. Joseph Academy has to work for everybody and our goal is to admit students we believe have the highest chance of success on a college preparatory educational path. The fact is that the Academy isn’t for every student, nor is every student a good fit for the Academy. But, if you are serious about going to college, if you believe that having a strong moral compass is essential to success in life, if your idea of the role of athletics in education is to teach the value of participation and collaboration—not only winning—Mount St. Joseph Academy is the school to consider.
MSJ is an independent, co-educational, Catholic school that operates under the authority and jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington and in accordance with the policies of the Diocesan Board of Education. The Vermont Board of Education verifies that Mount St. Joseph Academy is an approved independent secondary school. MSJ is a member of the Vermont Principals Association, the National Catholic Education Association, and a candidate of NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges).
Learning Paths
The goals of an MSJ education are to prepare young people—in mind, spirit, and body—for their college opportunity, to become successful participants in their community, and to explore the gift of their spirituality. We strive to educate the whole person, to instill in them a sense of giving back to those who have helped shape them, and to value service as a way of life. Over the past one hundred twenty-five years, Academy graduates have gone on to success in every imaginable field of study, bringing the legacy of their education with them wherever they have gone—around the world, the nation, and the local community.
